Scholarship and on-campus job opportunities available for students interested in China

The 2012 Chinese Government Scholarship is now accepting applications. The scholarship is provided by the Chinese Ministry of Education, and is administered by the China Scholarship Council (CSC). Sixteen Georgetown students have been awarded the scholarship to study in China in the past six years. Applicants should apply online and send required documents to the Chinese Embassy in Washington by April 30, 2012. Georgetown can nominate up to three candidates for this scholarship. If you are interested in being nominated, please send a copy of your resume, unofficial transcript from Student Access, and a personal statement to Ms. Tuoya Wulan by April 15, 2012.
International Summer School Scholarship at RUC: Renmin University of China will waive tuition for two students interested in attending its International Summer School (ISS) in Beijing. The one-month program starts on July 2, 2012, and ends on July 27, 2012. Interested candidates must send a written notification and a resume to Ms. Tuoya Wulan at International Initiatives before submitting the online application to RUC. Deadline: April 15, 2012.

Position Description:
Support the International Initiatives team (http://provost.georgetown.edu/initiatives/international/) by performing administrative tasks and providing research support. Specific tasks include compiling and analyzing information, developing marketing materials and web sites, and direct program support. While programs will include a range of countries, many will be related to China. One major task for the Student Program Assistant will be to provide support to a group of international students who attend the Georgetown Summer Session during summer 2012. This includes but not limited to: assisting the Associate Director for International Initiatives in designing and implementing cultural activities for the group, coordinating with other departments to provide pre-departure and arrival arrangements, recruiting and leading GU volunteers to engage international students and carry out cultural activities.
Qualifications/Requirements:
Candidates should have strong communication skills, including business writing skills, and have a track record of innovative approaches to finding information. They should also possess good interpersonal skills and demonstrate a capacity for attention to detail. Technology skills are also important. These include experience with the Microsoft Office suite of software and knowledge of web publishing and content management systems. Experience working or studying in China is a plus. Knowledge of Chinese language is strongly desired. Candidates are expected to work at least 20 hours per week during Summer 2012. Preference will be given to candidates who can work full time.
